In 1911 James was a Junior Clerk, aged 15, living with his parents, James and Margaret Fulton, and siblings, William, David, Dorothy and Annie, at 28 Tolson St, Broughton
Unfortunately the family suffered further when James' brother William (formerly a Lance Corporal in the Lancashire Fusiliers invalided out 12 months earlier due to illness) passed away 15th of March in the same year from T.B. and David died 17th February in 1925 aged 23.

Harold attested on the 12th of Septemebr 1914 aged 23. Embarked in Folkstone 8th November 1915 posted to France. Just two months later he was shot by a sniper in trench 20. Prior to the war he was a teacher at Renshaw Weslyan School (some details provided by Mack).

Harold Barrett taught at Cheetham Hill Wesleyan School, according to the Salford Chronicle of 29/1/1916.
