From the London Gazette 30/03/1916: For conspicuous gallantry when in charge of a grenadier section, during an enemy attack when parties of enemy bombers had got into our trench, he bombed out two parties, one after the other with great coolness and courage. Next day he was buried by a trench mortar, but stuck to his post. He is also remembered on the St Stephen's memorial (sited at St Phillip's).

John was a 13 year old schoolboy when the 1911 census was taken. He was living at 44 Clement St, Broughton, with his parents, John and Winifred, and siblings, George and Winifred.

The 1911 census states that Percy was born in Broughton in about 1893. He is shown as living at 19 Wordsworth St, Pendleton, with his mother.

Charles and Frank may have been brothers, it is dificult to say for sure as there aren't any ages or parents names to aid in the search. Harold was a 33 year old insurance agent when the 1911 census was taken. He was living with his wife, Elizabeth, and son, Harold, at 15 Cardiff St, Broughton. The son of John and Ellen, brother of William, Arthur and Walter. He attested on the 13th November 1916 aged 38, disembarked in France on the 3rd March 1917. Allowed some leave from the 9/02/1918 to the 23/02/1918. Killed in action on the 21st of March 1918.

Same regiment and service number is almost certainly a clerical error. This is another one that will have to wait till I visit the library.
