'I am in the best of spirits at the present. Jack( Private John Price of Hazelhurst Fold) was wounded in the leg abouth three weeks ago, and along with another youth, I helped to get him from the firing line down to base. I have heard since that he is in the Citadel Hospital at Cairo. We have been here about nine weeks now , and during that time I have had one pair of socks, one clean shirt, and washed myself about six times, so you will see we are in the thick of it.But we are happy , so what does it matter?. Fred Ellison(of the 1/8th battalion) got killed in the first few weeks we were here, and Herbert Worrall was killed in the same trench that I was in. He washed my shirt the night before he was killed, and he is sadly missed by us all.(From Hell let Loose 1/7th Battalion)
