No fewer than four of the men and boys on the Holy Rood memorial also appear on the Old Salfordians' War Memorial which I have researched. It is the memorial for old boys of Salford Grammar School, known as Salford Secondary School for Boys prior to 1932, and it currently hangs in the Peel Building of the University of Salford. It was rededicated in 2010.
They are Charles Hollinshead, his cousin Thomas Hollinshead, Haydn Gardner Metcalfe and George Hubert Wolfenden.
There is an H Smith on both memorials. Something like 800 H Smiths died in WW1, plus another 200 with a middle name, and I have been unable to identify him, but, given that 4 of the 74 Old Salfordians appear on the Holy Rood memorial, it might just be that H Smith is a fifth.
