I was wondering if by any chance - there's a picture of him, or anything documented available? I believe my Dad shown me the plaque at Swinton Town Hall with his name on, but I was a child then. Any documents or even a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Richard Fouracre.

Richard,
Welcome to the forum.
Sorry for the late reply, back in work today.
I will see if I can find anything on your Uncle James when I visit the Local History Library on Wednesday.

No problems and Thank you. I'm now living in Australia, so finding any documents or info is very difficult. My Dad still lives in Manchester - Eccles, I believe, so I communicate with him as best as I can. What I know on James is already posted on this site. ROTHWELL JAMES - United Kingdom. Trooper 3457622 Royal Tank Regiment R.A.C.06/09/1944 Age: 30 VII. A. 6. buried at St. Leopoldsburg Cemetary.
I also noted to my Dad that there's a, Graham Howard Rothwell - which is documented here. He came from Clifton. My Dad believes he may very well be another relative, or it's possible, by coincidence that another Rothwell from Clifton served. The Rothwell family are all from my Dad's side of the family and they all lived in Clifton and I believe there were a few that took part in the war, be it over-seas or at home. James' brother - my other Great-Uncle - Bill Rothwell was a Mid-Upper Gunner in a Lancaster. According to another document I found on another site, he was with No. 9 Sqn flying from RAF Bardenby, Lincolnshire. After a raid on Politz, the Bomber he was in crashed on return to base 21-22/12/1944 and he was injured. He survived the war.
My Great-Grandfater, Alfred Rothwell, Father to, James and Bill was a Bus Driver for the Lancashire United Transport. During the Salford Blitz, he drove the Buses around, as they were re-fitted as makeshift Ambulances. His role was to collect the dead and wounded.
Off the top of my head, that's as much information as I can remember and I really hope this helps with trying to track down anything. Once again, thank you for your efforts.
Richard Fouracre.
