Memorial ARRAS MEMORIAL Additional Information: Son of the late John Francis and Eliza Barker. Born in Salford (1882). The 22nd Manchesters took attacked the village of Bullecourt on the morning of the 13th May, 1917, 3 officers and 106 men were killed during the assault.

Memorial: HELLES MEMORIAL Additional Information: Son of James and Margaret Bolas, of "Westwood," Broad Oak Park, Monton, Manchester.  Two Fokkers flown by Lt Buddecke and Lt Schuz shot down a British aircraft near Cape Helles on the 11th and the next day Lt Schuz alone downed a Farman (which was being flown by James). As for the crew of this latest aircraft to be shot down, the pilot was found dead but the observer was taken prisoner.

The 1911 census shows Walter Hedley Brooks living at 24 Granville St, Monton with his mother Jane and sister Ellen. Both the 1911 and 1891 census give his birth place as Eccles.
