Dalton Street, Salford

At the date of posting this message there is a post card for sale on ebay that shows a young child stood below a memorial believed to have been sited at Dalton Street in Eccles. After a quick search I noticed a thread on the Great War Forum which shows the same post card and some close ups of the memorial. I have sent a message to the member of that forum asking for permission to use his images. Fingers crossed that we receive a positive response.

Would this be DALTON STREET SALFORD by any chance.
I can see a T SHAW on the image. my grandfather of Dalton street salford. could this be Salford and not Eccles. I can not see it very clearly though.
Any ideas ?

Welcome to the forums.

You have a very good eye, you are correct that this is Dalton St in Salford. I had posted these pictures without doing research as I was in the middle of a few other things.

I have attached a scan of the absent voters list which shows your grandfather as registered at number 30.

William Hankins, as listed at No. 41 Dalton St., was my grandfather.
He served in the Dardanelles with the Lancashire Fusiliers before being invalided out as he had a club foot and couldn't march.
