C Snell is the Great grandfather of forum member Sue Tydd. She wrote:
Pte, Charles Stell. Born 1881 Skipton, moved to Police Street Patricroft early 1911. Worked Nasmyths on Green Lane. Enlisted Sept 1914 L/F's. Posted to France in 1915 then shortly after to Gallipoli, wounded on Lancashire Landings beach at Gallipoli on first day of battle. Two days to evacuate him from the beach. Recovered in hospital in Alexandria. Returning to Gallipoli 13th August 1915 aboard HRT Royal Edward which was torpedoed by a german U - Boat, grandad drowned.
