This memorial was found in a scrapyard in 2009, it was quickly established that it had once been sited at the CWS Broughton works and later believed to have been at the CWS, Vere St site. For more info please see this BBC report. This memorial has now been repaired and will be rededicated at the Co-operative Funeral Services, 143 Cross Lane, Salford, Lancashire, M5 4AL. The rededication will take place on the 11th November at 11.00am. Well done to the Co-operative and all involved in bringing the memorial back home.

After a unanimous vote by the admin team we have spent £18.50 on a wreath that will be placed by the memorial tomorrow. The wreath, pictured hereunder, will be laid on behalf of ALL of you. The card is simply worded "For our tomorrow, they gave their today. From all at Salford War Memorials Project (SWARM)." Attachments:

Today's re-dedication was first class and much kudos must be sent to the Co-operative, especially Andy Waters the manager of the Co-op Funeral Parlour. I will add some links to news articles shortly. The order of service: Page 1 Attachments:

Mack,
I cannot take credit for IDing the above as a lot of the information was gained from the Roll of Honour site. I was involved in the initial research on the Great War Forum from which some of the information on the Roll of Honour was gleaned.

My Granddad John Cyril Deakin was just 15 when he enlisted in WW1, thankfully, he lived although he suffered all his life after being gassed. His cousin William Arthur Deakin wasn't so lucky, he died aged 21, I have posted a bit about him on another page.
I am very grateful to he person on this board, who found me, as I am a keen family historian. Thank goodness the Memorial was found and restored, and thank you for taking the time to lay a wreath and to be there for these young men. Yours, Doreen nee Deakin.

Doreen,
Many thanks for joining the forum and for posting the information on William Arthur Deakin, please feel free to post some information with regards to John on the Roll of Honour board if you wish.
May I pass your email address on to a relative of Peter Hulland who is also named on the memorial? She is trying to trace as many of the men's living relatives as she can.
Garry
