W Seymour, Died of Wounds of Queens West Surreys has eluded identification. He is mentioned on 1914-16 Casualties Roll for Drysaltery Roll. The sole candidate I can find is Pte L/8798 William Seymour enlisted 22/1/1906. Discharged QRWS 8/2/1916 with wounds. His MIC shows he also served in RAOC and RASC (with notes I cant interpret. CWGC doesn't have an apparent W Seymour and I wonder if William died of wounds soon after discharge. Just a hunch and any ideas are welcome. T

T Tim, This man, or his family, applied for his clasp and roses (instituted in 1919) in 1923. Does anyone know if family members were allowed to apply for the clasp and rose? If not, then we know that William must have lived until at least 1923.

Thanks Garry, This William Seymour was born in London and was pre-war regular with QRWS. He later served in RAOC and ASC and now appears to have survived hostilities. I think I'm barking up the wrong tree.
My next thought is:- William Henry Seymour Bethune Town Cemetery Private 19302, 1st Bn, West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales's Own) 1st Bn attd. 1st Field Supply Depot who died on 27 December 1917. Birth Place: Manchester Enlistment Place: Matlock Type of Casualty: Died. Effects to Miss Margaret Rothwell and Thomas W Rothwell. £13 War Gratuity. 3/19302 Prefix noted as 3rd (Reserve). France 20/7/1915. BEWM/VM Roll notes initial posting 1st WYR, 8th Entrenching Bttn, then returning to 1st Bttn.
I know Yorkshire is nowhere near Sussex, but there are quite few errors in the Roll and this man seems to be a sensible candidate. I can't find any cross-reference though. Tim PS The W Yorks man cannot be right because the correct man died in 1914-16 as shown on the Drysaltery Roll. Back to Square 1
