St Marys Eccles Harry Worthington Born Salford Resident Eccles Private Lancashire Fusiliers 15th Battalion 10519 Died 28/3/1916 CWG Age 36 Son of Henry and Sarah Ann Worthington of Eccles V1.F.S Connaught Cemetery Thiepval At 7:30pm on 28th March 1916 the Battalion marched to the trenches at Authuille. Private Harry Worthington was killed by a rifle grenade and buried in a grave just below the hill where he fell. The Army Chaplain wrote " The little servive at the graveside was attended by his friends and a cross, made by his comrades has been placed on the grave. A single man aged 36 he was the son of Henry and Sarah Ann Worthington of 11 King St Eccles , and he ran a toffee stall at Eccles Cross with his brother and sister in law. The Chaplain also wrote about his musical talents. " He was a great help to the various concerts , for he was a good pianist , and used to enjoy accompanying the songs. Wendy

His brother Harry was in the 15th Lancashire Fusiliers and another brother was with the Canadians(from Gods Own 1st Salford Pals)
