Mack,
Thanks for this information. I had found the family living at 99 Stowell St in the 1901 census but my colleague never mentioned anything about Edward, Annie or Edward Jnr. I will let him know tomorrow.

Mack,
I had noticed that they were at the same address. My colleague had not been told about his great uncle's family losing their lives in WW2 and called his father immediately. This jogged his father's memory and a few more details; the family are believed to have been sheltering in the cellar of the house but it wasn't enough protection against a direct hit. We have now found the grave of this family in Weaste Cemetery.
Thank you.

Hi sorry to re open an old thread but I am slightly confused , I am the granddaughter of Margret Cassin , who I believe also lived in the same house . She worked at the telephone exchange in central Manchester and was working a night shift during the evening that the house was bombed , the next morning she returned home to find her parents and brothers had been killed (this is how my dad told me anyway) I presume Dorothy was her mother can anybody tell me if I am correct
Thanks, smudge

Hi Smudge,
Welcome to the forum.
Margaret's mother was Annie (nee Platt), Edward her father. Dorothy was the mother of Edward Cassin.

Hi Smudge, Welcome to the forum. Margaret's mother was Annie (nee Platt), Edward her father. Dorothy was the mother of Edward Cassin. HTH I have only just seen this. In the 1870s my grandfather's uncle married into this Cassin family, who descend from a Denis Cassin who was born in Malta in 1817. Malta and 1817 suggested to me a military connection, and sure enough there was a Serjeant Denis Cassin, an Irishman, serving in the garrison there, who must have been his father: right name, right place and right age. There's material relating to Denis senior's military service on Ancestry and particularly on Find My Past - he was nearing the end of 13 years service when Denis junior was born. Wars clearly have an important place in Cassin family history. Old Salfordian

Hallo 👋 I recall my father mentioning a Dennis Cassin, I believe that he was a grenadier guard. l remember being told that he had been shot in the chest and survived, which was lucky in those days. A lot of this side of the family Were connected to the army. After her parents were killed, Margret joined the Royal corps of signals, l she was posted to Y stations to eves drop on the German radio signals, she married Wilf, who had also served, so i guess it’s only right that I’ve been in for 4 yrs now 😂 I’ll speak to my dad & see what more he knows about Dennis.
