these poems were written at different times and under different circumstances i dont wish to get in a debate over the politics over a forum, if you agree great if not tough.
i have copyright on all the poems, tonyrod
MANCHESTER REGIMENT FORUM
the manchester mods are on the somme
doing what they do best
seeing the graves of the manchester lads
who are laying there to rest
its a moving experience if you have never been
it gave me a feeling of pride
finding the grave of family i had never seen
laying there with his pals at his side
we can only go and pay our respects
and place poppies on there graves
and bring in from the cold the unknown soul
with more information and research

THE FIGHTER BARRY POLLARD 1955 - 0CT 2009
L/CPL ROYAL ARTILLARY 2 TOURS OF IRELAND
he got told he had cancer and not much time to live
how long do you recon doc before they shut down the lid
two or three months the doctor replied then i guess there,s no place to hide
the cancer tried to take him almost right away
but he was having none of it he would fight it his way
it was not going to beat him till he was ready to go
he had to much to do and no time to be slow
he had to grin and bear it for over 3 years
he carried on smoking and drinking his beer
but he was a fighter and would show no fear
the day before he died he had a fag and a beer
after all his pain and suffering it finally took its toll
all he had left was his heart and soul
but one thing i will remember till my dieing day
i walked along with Barry part of the way

above and beyond
manchester regiment vc's
what did they have this band of men
that set them aside from other men
who fought for their lives in a man made hell
then wrote home to their families all is well
was it something that came from deep within
or did it just happen when the adrenalin kicked in
their actions saved lives so others could live
some paid with their lives they had no more to give
a good few came home to a hero's welcome
others came home to find no food on the table
some of them could not even get work
selling matches on a corner you don't call that work
i would like to thank them each and every one
they wont be forgotten has time rolls on
their deeds will be remembered till the end of time
even though i did not meet them they were pals of mine

THE GURKHA
GURKHAS ALLWAYS STAND AND FIGHT
THEY WILL NOT SHIRK OR TAKE FLIGHT
BY YOUR SIDE TILL THE END
ALLWAYS THERE LIKE A FREIND
WHAT IS THE COST YOU MAY SAY
THE PRICE FOR FREEDOM WE HAVE TO PAY
WHEN THEY LAY DOWN THEIR LIVES FOR US
ANYTHING WE PAY WONT BE ENOUGH
WE LET OLD ENEMYS LIVE OVER HERE
TAKING OUR JOBS AND DRINKING OUR BEER
SENDING MONEY HOME TO THEIR BRIDES
ALL THE FAMILYS OVER ON THE NEXT TIDE
SO GOVERMENT MINISTERS DONT BE TIGHT
THE GURKHAS THEY HAVE EARNED THE RIGHT
TO LIVE IN BRITAIN JUST LIKE YOU
REMEMBER THEY FIGHT FOR THE RED WHITE AND BLUE.

THE GURKHA'S THEY HAVE WON THE RIGHT

AND CPL KUMAR PUN
SO NOW THE GOVERNMENT HAVE GONE ABOUT TURN
JUST ONE BIG LESSON THEY NEED TO LEARN
THEY HAVE GOT TO START LISENING TO WHAT WE SAY
IF THEY NEED USE TO FIGHT ANOTHER DAY

IRLAM AND CADISHEAD
IRLAM AND CADISHEAD WHERE IS THAT?
I DID NOT HAVE A CLUE
THEN I GOT TALKING TO A PAL OF MINE
TURNS OUT HE WAS FROM THERE TOO
I DONE A LITTLE RESEARCH ON HIS FAMILY TREE
AROUND WORLD WAR 1 AND TWO
AND FOUND SOME OF HIS FAMILY FOUGHT IN ONE
FOR THE LIKES OF ME AND YOU
WORKING CLASS HEROS EVERYONE
OVER 1000 ANSWERED TO THE CALL
A LOT OF THEM NEVER EVER RETURNED
YOU’LL FIND THEIR NAMES ON A MEMORIAL WALL
IT’S JUST A LITTLE DISTRICT SOME WILL SAY
BUT IT’S GOT A GREAT BIG HEART
ITS ROOTS ARE WRITTEN DOWN IN, SOAP AND STEEL
IT CERTANLY PLAYED ITS PART
IF YOU GO WALKING AROUND THERE TODAY
YOU WILL NOT BE ON YOUR OWN
JUST LOOK AT THE OLD HOUSES THAT’S WERE THEY LIVED
THEIR DESCENDENTS ARE STILL THERE TODAY
-------------------------------------------------------
THE GOOD OLD MOD AND GOVERNMENT
IT SEEMS THEY ONLY LIKE A PARADE
FLYING THE FLAG FOR THE FALLEN AND BRAVE
HOW MANY ARE COMING HOME ON THERE OWN
RELYING ON CHARITYS NEAR THEIR HOMES
BROKEN BODIES AND MINDS MOST WONT GET FIXED
THE SERVICE MEN AND WOMEM AT THE BOTTOM OF THE LIST
WE TOLD YOU ABOUT THE GURKHAS YOU WENT ABOUT TURN
WE ARE TELLING YOU ABOUT THE WOUNDED WILL YOU NEVER LEARN
THERE IS A EASY WAY TO BALANCE THE BOOKS
SEND HOME THE REFUGEES THE THEIVES AND CROOKS
FORCE THE BANKS TO START PLAYING A FAIR GAME
MINISTERS THROW AWAY YOUR EXPENCES CLAIMS
THE VALUES OF THIS COUNTRY HAVE GONE DOWN THE DRAIN
ALL THE DEAD BRITISH SOLDIERS ARE TURNING IN THEIR GRAVES
WHAT DID THEY FIGHT FOR ALL THOSE BRAVE MEN
FOR YOU LOT TO GIVE ARE COUNTY AWAY
ITS NO GOOD SAYING YOU ARE TRYING YOUR BEST
GIVE OUR TROOPS WHAT THEY NEED AND THEY WILL DO THE REST
THERE WONT BE AS MANY COMING HOME IN A BOX
JUST A FEW WALKING WOUNDED IN NICE CLEAN SOCKS
