Me, Jim and his mum Sheila attend the Run the Race service this morning at St Pauls, Walkden. We were blessed by the Bishop of Manchester and given badges and booklets. Both the Vicar Karen Owen, and the Bishop are very interested in what we are doing, in fact the Bishop lost his father in WW2. They have taken some leaflets, and one parishoner Amos Millington, is trying to get us in to the local school, as they are doing a project on the CWGC graves, that are in their Local Graveyard. I would like to add here a small message of thanks to Rev. Karen Owen, and all at the parish of St. Paul's Walkden Moor, for such a warm and friendly welcome to your service today. It was a pleasure and a privilege to be a part of the celebration of the church, and part of Bishop Nigel's pilgrimage around his Diocese. The Right Reverend Nigel McCulloch, Bishop of Manchester, for the benefit of those who have not had the pleasure of meeting him, is a very warm, friendly and approachable man. When Rev. Owen introduced Debbie (bomber) and myself to Bishop Nigel, he expressed approval of our work with SWARM, and revealed that he lost his own father in World War II. I hope Bishop Nigel will approve of the small memorial I have added to our Roll of Honour in tribute to his father. This can be viewed here.
