No 82108 10th Battalion Cheshire Regiment. Killed in action in France august 1st 1917. age 33 years. 1st Somme battle July to November 1916.2nd began March 21 1918 approx2000 casualties. A memorial plaque is sited at the Ypres (Menin Gate) Ypres (Now Leper)which is a town in the Province of West Flanders. The memorial issituated at the eastern side of the town on the road to Menin(menen) andcourtrai(Kortrijk) The Menin Gate is one of four memorials to the missing in BelgianFlanders which covers the area known as Ypres Salient. At least 2 years and 10 days of this time was spent in confinement orHard Labour punishment .This punishment time was probably deducted fromhis pension entitlement . Charles Edwards birthdate recorded at his christening at St ClementsChurch ,Ordsall , Salford on14 January 1885 was 24 November 1884. This being the case , when he signed up in 1900 for the ManchesterRegiment he was actually only 16 years old not 18.
