does anyone know where the adelphi lads clubs records are kept, apparently, the secretary of the club and some of the staff, sent out letters to past and present members, asking them to keep them informed on how they were getting on during the war, they recieved countless letters from old boys serving in the forces, exracts were published in the weekly news, which ime guessing is the clubs newspaper,if this paper still survives,it will be a great source of info

Hi Mack. I've just done a search on Access to Archives www.a2a.org.uk and although several references to the Adelphi Lads Club show up at both Lancashire Record Office and Greater Manchester County Record. However, none of these appear to official club records, so it is possible that they have not been deposited into any archives. The majority of the GMCRO items appear to be miscellaneous photographs. Hope this is of some help.

I wonder if the Salford Lads Club has anything in their Archives about this, they may well have taken on the keeping of them.,

Nice one Debs, I hadn't had time this morning to check beyond the fully indexes catalogues on A2A, which I now remember a lot of Salford's stuff isn't fully indexed on, just the images of the printed books on the National Archives. Brilliant work Debs. I was hoping to check further this afternoon, but wasn't sure I'd be able to based on how busy it's been this morning.

Jim, all I did was type Adelphi Lads Club Salford into Google lol, so much stuff isn't archived, and can be found on the internet, I know there is a lot of Salford things not Archived or Archived but hidden away, if you know what I mean. I didn't even know until a few weeks back that most of the Salford Items are in Irlam, because I would have thought it would all be at the History Library in Salford lol

Many archives are a complete mess unfortunately. It's a pretty sad indictment that Google gets better results than the official sources really. And if anything, with spending cuts, I can only envisage it getting worse.
