Hi Here is some info I found on the men on James Wheeldon &Sons roll of honour.
Harry Abbott . Private Border Regiment .He volunteered in December 1914, he was drafted to the Dardenelles the following April ,where he took part in heavy fighting at Krithia and the capture of Chunuk Bair. After the evacuation of the Gallipoli Peninsula , he was sent to Egypt and was in action at Occupation of Sollum, capture of El Fasher and the battle of Romani. Later he proceeded to France and fought at Messines, Ypres(111), Cambrai , The Marne and Bapaume. He was demobbed in February 1919. He holds the 1914-15 star, general service and victory medals. 82 Nansen Street Salford

F Langhorne Fred Border Reg 2nd Battalion 71257 died 2/11/14 France and Flanders Born Carlisle Enlisted Carlisle but there is a Fred Langhorne in Salford in 1911 but I can't check where he was born.
W Edmunds Mobilised at the declaration of war, in August 1914 he was at once drafted to France and was wounded at Mons. Subsequently he took part in fighting at La Basse, Ypres, Neuve Chapelle, St Eloi, Hill 60, The Somme, Arras, Messines, and in July 1917 he was again wounded and invalided home. After treatment he was eventually discharged in August 1918. He holds 1914-15 Star, general service and victory medals 8 Ash Grove Weaste
J McMahon John He volunteered in November 1914 and was drafted to France the following March and was involved in action at Neuve Chapelle, Richebourg, St Vaast, Laventie, Fleurbaix, Ploegsteert Wood and Armentieres. He was wounded at Vermelles and returned to England and received treatment at Cambridge Hospital. H e then served at the depots of his unit until discharged as medically unfit in September 1916 . T Ward Thomas He volunteered in March 1915 and the following December proceeded to Egypt where he served at Mersa Matruh, Agayla, Katia, Romani, Magdhaba. Early in 1917 he was sent to France but was wounded at Ypres in July. On his recovery he fought in the battles of The Somme, Amiens and Bapaume. Do any of these exist for the Ordsall velvet dye works? Regards, Mike The velvet dye works in Ordsall was J & JM Worrall Ltd, the largest specialised velvet dyeworks in the world. My father worked for them for the 35 years before they closed and wrote a history of the company, unpublished. There is a Roll of Honour for the company with, I'd say, about 250 names on it. I have it on a CD ROM published by GGB. Some of the guys, who obviously must have survived the war, are mentioned as colleagues in Dad's account.
