I am doing some research on the liberation of our region (Limburg, the Netherlands) during operation Blackcock WW2 in january 1945. I found one soldier that got killed (died of wounds) during this, on this Forum with an article from a newspaper. His name is Herbert Gordon Wiles. Perhaps one got more information like: There was a news article posted (by shred), is it known which newspaper and date?
Was he also listed on a memorial?
If yes, were could I find a photo of it?
More information and pictures are also welcome.
Regards, Henk

Hello Henk.
I believe the articles Shred included were taken from the Salford City Reporter newspaper, as held on microfilm at the Salford Local History Library. He focused on the microfilm records held there, whilst I worked on the records held in Bolton for newspapers.
We have never yet traced Herbert Wiles to any of the memorials we have recorded, although he may well have been covered on one of the many which did not include lists of names. This is part of the reason for our work - to ensure those not necessarily named on a local memorial are registered and remembered.

Thanks Jim, For all the soldiers that got killed in this region I am building a personal page of honor. That is why I am looking for information about them, like from Herbert Gordon Wiles. When I use any external information like a picture or newspaper article I use a citation of the source. I have folowing on him: Herbert Gordon Wiles born 1st quarter 1925 son of James Herbert and Emilie Wiles of Salford, Lancashire. (Queens Royal West Surrey)Enlisted?
