Hi. I am rearching a relative for my son. His Grandfathers brother is called Albert G Spring. I know he died in Burma in May 1940, and his name is on this forums main list of people appearing on the Swinton Memorial. However further research suggests that he is not listed on the memorial.
Does anyone know whether he is actually mentioned on the memorial or not and, if not, how come he appears on this forums list.
Thanks in advance.

Hello. As far as I can see, the entry correctly refers to Arnold Gilbert Spring (listed on the Swinton memorial as "SPRING, Arnold"), and not Albert. On the second page of the "Swinton War Memorial 1939-45" thread here on the forums is a complete list of the names recorded on the panels of the memorial, and the second post following the list is a newspaper cutting of the article reporting Arnold Spring's death in Burma, complete with a small photo of him.
I am, and have been for the last ten years, the primary researcher and compiler of the combined master Database of the memorials for both the SWARM, and the Bolton War Memorials Project. I have no record of an Albert G. Spring. The record I have for Arnold Gilbert Spring records him as the son of Albert and Violet May Spring, of 16, South Avenue, Swinton, Lancashire. He was in the 9th Bn., York and Lancaster Regiment at the time of his death, aged 20.
I hope this is of some help / clarification, but please feel free to contact me directly if I can be of further assistance. - Jim
