Hello Everybody. My name is Roy Willard, my Mother: Lilian Josephine Willard nee Williams was born in 1911 at Broughton, Manchester. Her mother was: Elizabeth Williams nee Kerridge and her father; Laurence Joseph Williams. I live near Rye in East Sussex, so my research into my Mother's family has been limited to surviving family members and Websites.
My Mother's Father was born November 1875 at Tullamore, Kings Co, (now Offaly), Ireland, he married Elizabeth Kerridge 1896 in Charleston, Lancashire.
Briefly he joined the Rifle Brigade in 1914 but was discharged as 'medically unfit', he gave his age as 30yrs. In 1915 he joined the Manchester Regiment at the age of 40yrs. After training he was with the Manchester Regiment, moved to France in 1916. He died on 9th July 1916 in the Battle of Trones Wood, Somme and like so many no known grave, he is remembered at the Thiepval Memorial.
I received tremendous help from the 'Manchester Regiment Group Forum' and learned a lot about his Military life, but there lays the issue I have tried to find out more about his personal life when he left Ireland and arrived in Salford. My success has been limited so I would very much appreciate help as to where I can find out more about his Social and Working life. Look forward to any comments. Than you Roy Willard
