Hello
These two Pendlebury miners were my grandfather's brothers and both served in WW1 (not that successfully) particularly in the case of one of them (only lasted a couple of weeks). I have their service records if anyone is interested. No photos sadly.
JR Lloyd 19206 Kings Regt Liverpool
W Lloyd 397573/ 41709 / 58418 (first two crossed out) Lancashire Fusiliers later transferred
Cheers

Shaun,
Many thanks for taking the time to join the forum, posting and generously offering access to the service records.
You say that one only lasted a couple of weeks. I am presuming that he was released due to not meeting the fitness/health required to be a soldier, rather than been killed?

Hello
Yes,John Robert Lloyd enlisted in Sept 1914 and was only 5 feet 2. He was discharged as "unlikely to make an efficient soldier" after less than a month. What is strange is that he went on to become an all-England wrestling champion.
Wallace Lloyd was very short, only 4 foot 10 but joined up in 1917 with the Lancs Fusiliers. He was transferred to labour corps. His record shows he had a bout of scabies which was probably pretty common.
Both worked as colliers in Pendlebury and were clearly malnourished!
