Hi everyone. Come on here to try and fing out about my great uncle and my great great uncle. Both were called Squire Shawcross. One died in ww1 and is commemorated at a cemetery near the Somme. The other died in ww2 in Burma and is commemorated in the Rangoon memorial. I only know what I was told as a child about my great uncle in Burma. Didn't really know about Squire who died in the 1st world war. I was told by my Nan that she got a letter saying that Squire was found and gave a Christian burial on a hill in Burma. I have confirmed through research that he was found so he probably was buried where he fell. Wondering if anyone has more info. Thanks.

Tay, I think your mum may have meant the Burma Star en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burma_StarIt would be difficult to indicate which medals he was entitled to without seeing his service record.

Hi Tay,
My grandad was Samuel Shawcross and he had a brother named Squire who was killed in World War 2 in Burma, he was named after his uncle Squire who was killed in WW1 in France and Flaunders. I have been doing a lot of research on ancestory.com in which I have come across Squire and Samuels father. Their father who was also named Samuel married twice, he married Sarah Egerton and then remarried Louie Jarvis If Squire is your great uncle then my grandad Samuel is your great uncle also. If you would like to see a video of Samuel Shawcross, there is a video of him during World War 2 where he was stationed in india in the navy. Samuel is talking back to loved ones at home. The video is called "Calling Blighty".
If you think any of this information may be in relation to you it would be great to hear back.
Thanks.
