I have a picture of my father sitting on the wing of a Spitfire with all his crew members. My father would tell me stories of the German bombing of London during the war. I have a picture of his entire crew. If I remember it was taken with 24 of his crew members. He is on the left wing 2nd from the left. i requested his records from the RAF and what I received was barely readable. Is there some service that can help me interpret his war records? The photograph I have is of such a high quality that I had it scanned to 4800 DPI. You can easily make out the faces of every crewmen. Rich

My name is Richard Hagan, 1st generation American living in San Mateo CA. As my wife was cleaning out the closet she found a briefcase full of 50 of my parents pictures. I am hoping that this site can help me understand what squadron my father belonged to. Rich

Hi Rich, Welcome to the forum. Was your father a Salford lad? Was he a pilot? Well done to your other half for discovering the documents/pictures. I would have thought that your father's service record would contain all the information that you would need to start your research. I have never seen a WW2 Royal Air Force service record and I may struggle to interpret it correctly. May I suggest that you post on the WW2 Talk forum? Try posting in the "The War in the Air" sub-forum ww2talk.com/forums/forum/16-the-war-in-the-air/ I am sure that you will receive much more information from the experts on that forum. Good luck with the research. Garry

Gerry, Thanks for the suggestion. I will post in a few hours after I get a good scan of the documents.
