Hi everyone ...hope i am in the correct section for my enquiry....I see that there are many memorials for those brave soldiers who lost their lives in the Great War such as Church Memorials etc.....Is there any Memorials to the Railway workers etc....The reason i am asking is that i have found that a nomber of my family members all worked on the railways before going to War.......Regards to all.......Raymond

Hi Raymond,
The Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company had a memorial at their Loco Works in Horwich. The memorial is still there although the works are long gone. They also had a Roll of Honour book, and a copy of this can be viewed in the Bolton History Centre at Bolton Library and Museum.
There is a huge memorial in Manchester's Victoria station. I can't remember if this was London and North Western or Lancs and Yorks railway.
The London and North Western memorialwas at Euston Station in London, and they also produced a book. Copies of the book are held by the National Railway Museum in York, and I have an electronic copy (photographed from an original). This book is also listed on the National Inventory of War Memorials as a designated memorial.
Please feel free to contact me if I can assist further. I have indexed the Bolton and Salford (modern day council geographic areas) men I have identified in both roll of honour books.

Thanks Pete, I was replying from my phone on my lunch break, and got a total mental block, and I didn't want to state the wrong one!! I blame it on work, and the excitement of my new dog!!
