Hi there I'm an English expat from Stretford, I settled with my husband from Weaste in Salford in Australia in 1982. On Saturday (25th April, 2015) , Australia & New Zealand will commemorate 100 years of the landing at Gallipoli in Turkey. It is known as ANZAC Day in Australia and New Zealand. This event has brought me to recall a member of my husbands family who died during WW2. I have very little information about this man other than his name and where he died. His name was Francis (Frank) Dale from Salford and he died in Madagascar during WW2. He took a bullet through the stomach which saved the life of a nearby fellow soldier who, also wounded but less so, survived. After the war ended this soldier visited my husbands family to explain the circumstances and to say how grateful he was for being saved from death. By all accounts it was a harrowing meeting all round but a very kind and courageous thing for this man to do. I think there is very little chance that anybody would know of Francis Dale or his soldier friend but if anybody should I would love to hear from you. LEST WE FORGET 2015

Hi Ben Thank you so much for your reply. What a great web site. I do believe your information is correct and I am quite overwhelmed. I've posted the video Gallipoli 100 Years to my Facebook page, lest we forget ALL those who took part & died at Gallipoli. Thanks again.

Your welcome. Good possibility that other forum members & staff might help with more info on your Francis Dale? They never fail to amaze me with what they turn up with.
