Hi I've spent quite some time trying to find out exactly what happened to my Great Grandfather Percy Hugh Lord, who was an Engineering draughtsman in 1914. He went to war and did not return. He left his wife Minnie with 3 children. Minnie later went on to marry Kenneth Warburton, who had survived the war after serving with his brother Edgar in the Manchester regiment. I have not been able to confirm whehter the Percy Lord #19947, listed on the St. Mary's War Cross is the same Percy Lord. Can anyone help?

I'm not sure if this is him or not, I've not been able to find the service records to tie soldier 19947 with other family members. He may well be my G. grandfather, I'm just looking for more information. The family history just records that he sent a letter that just said, "Why worry?" And was never heard from again.

Hi Mystic36, i see the marriage for Percy Hugh Lord to Minnie Summers 1912 Prestwich, registrar attended. First question: What religion were both of them? 2) Do you have the wedding certificate and if so, can you give all the details off the certificate please? 3) what was the last known address you have Percy at & when? 4) Can you give birth details, where born, when & parents? 5) what proof do you have that he did in fact enlist?
The more info you post the better the chance members might be able to help you?

I don't think this Percy is the one your looking for as SWDIGW states born Urmston & not Yardley, Worcestershire. Also mostly but not all men on most memorial are of that parish, it might be worth looking if any church his 3 children were baptized at may have a memorial with his name on? Listed in 1913 directory at 6 Coniston avenue, Harpurhey, James Summers warehouse man. By the way the house still stand and looks like one of the nicest streets in Harpurhey. The nearest church to the Coniston avenue, Harpurhey address would be Christ church on Rochdale road, which would be a matter of 100's of yards away but sadly his name is not on the memorial in the church.
Another church you could try is St James, Rusholme as this is where one of his children was baptized
Baptism: 7 Jan 1913 St James, Birch in Rusholme, Lancs. Ferrars Hugh Lord - Child of Percy Hugh Lord & Minnie Abode: 2 Thurloe Street Occupation: Electrical Engineer Notes: Private Baptism in margin Baptised by: P. F. L. Cantley
1913 directory at 2 Thurloe Street, Rusholme Arthur Henry Sharpe painter
Two years late the child seems to have died & buried St Barnabas, Warwickshire Ferras Hugh Lord Birth Year: abt 1913 Burial Date: 21 Oct 1915 Burial Place: Erdington, St Barnabas, Warwickshire.
