Thanks to Shred and Ben,I found out my other great granddad also served and after searching for other relatives who may know anything about him was rewarded with this picture of him, still don't know much about his time in the war, what company/battalion etc he was in,as I cannot find his service records but this is a start.

From the cap badge of the man on the left it looks like he served with the Connaught Rangers.
Hope this helps

Hi Shred, thanks for that it looks so much better,I should of said he is the one seated on the right.Pete from the information Shred and Ben located for me he had two reg no,one for Royal Irish Regiment and one for Royal Irish Rifles. I have trawled through Ancestry records and could not find anything other than the medal index card so I think his service records might be one of those lost during ww2.

Hi Ben,no need to say sorry, the photo came from Jonathan's granddaughter who I located by chance through one of her friends on Facebook of all places,I am hoping she may have other items that will help, unfortunately she does not remember him and apparently he was not talked about in her family either.Pete,is it the angle of his cap badge that seems to make it look different to the other mans or am I seeing things, the Royal Irish part is intriguing my family.

Sue,
Do you know who the other man is? Is there anything written on the back of the original picture?

Hi Garry, have finally heard back from the lady who emailed the picture but unfortunately there is nothing on the back and they do not know who the other man is.

That's disappointing, a name may have helped. I have tried to work out a battalion from his service number, unfortunately there does not seem to be any pattern to them. I was going to suggest getting in touch with the Royal Irish Fusilier Museum but it is closed due to a pending relocation. www.royal-irish.com/museums/royal-irish-regiment-museum

I'm almost certain i have seen this photo on another forum but for the life of me i can't think which? I only mention it as the person who posted it might be a relative of the other soldier?
