Looking for advice on where to start on finding out info about my great grandfather Private Daniel Shelton Potts (15242 - 16th Lancs Fusiliers) we know he's on the Thiepval memorial for the missing but not much else...any help would be appreciated especially a photo for my mum who's never seen her grandfather. Thx

Andtomjam,
Welcome to the Salford War Memorials forum.
I notice that Daniel did not reside in Salford so it would be difficult to carry out any research locally. That said, he may have appeared in a group picture published in the The roll of honour of the Salford Brigade 15th, 16th, 19th, 20th and 21st Lancashire Fusiliers by Montague Barlow. Please be aware that the images published in this publication includes an index, but the index does not relate to the men's position on the image. I will check the book when I visit the Salford History Library on Wednesday evening.
A quick search on Ancestry gives the following: Daniel Shelton Potts son of Daniel and Charlotte, born 1893 in Great Clifton, Cumberland. 1901 census - a scholar living at 12 West Street, Fletchertown, Cumberland. 1911 census - a filler for hewers (coal mine), living at 10 Milton Street, Beswick. Private 15242 Daniel S Potts disembarked in France on the 23/11/1915 - Killed in action on the 02/07/1916. Entitled to the 1915 Star, British War and Victory medals.
CWGC gives: DANIEL SHELTON POTTS Rank: Private Service No: 15242 Date of Death: 02/07/1916 Regiment/Service: Lancashire Fusiliers 16th Bn. Panel Reference Pier and Face 3 C and 3 D. Memorial THIEPVAL MEMORIAL
SDGW gives: Name: Daniel Shilton Potts Birth Place: Gt. Clifton, Cumberland Death Date: 2 Jul 1916 Death Location: France & Flanders Enlistment Location: Manchester Rank: Private Regiment: Lancashire Fusiliers Battalion: 16th Battalion Number: 15242 Type of Casualty: Killed in action

Andtomjam,
I am sorry to report that Daniel Shelton Potts was not included in any of the images featured in The roll of honour of the Salford Brigade.
