LF John W Hickey Private Seaforth Highlanders One month after volunteering in April 1917 he was sent to the Western Front where he was engaged in severe fighting in the battles of Ypres , Cambrai, and the Somme. He was wounded at Beaumont -Hamel in July during the Somme Offensive. After treatment in Bethnal Green he returned to France in April 1917 and fought in the battles of Arras , Bullecourt, Ypres , Passchendaele and the Retreat of 1918. He was again wounded on the Marne in July 1917 . After treatment in England ,he again returned to France and served until April 1919. He then proceeded to Palestine in in Feb 1917 , he then served at Gaza,Jerusalem ,Jericho and other places during General Allenbys Offensive.
