KILLED IN ACTION LANCE-CORPORAL H BESWICK Mrs Grace Beswick of Bigland St, Salford, has received notification from the War Office that her husband, Lance-Corporal Herbert Beswick, of the Royal Engineers , was killed in action in the Middle East in November. Educated at the Ordsall Council School, Salford, Lance-Corporal Beswick was thirty-one years of age. In civil life he was employed at Messrs. Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Company Ltd. On the outbreak of war he joined the Salford Division of the Auxiliary Fire Service with which he served until he volunteered for the Army in May 1940. After training he was drafted to France and was evacuated from a French port in June shortly before the capitulation of the French Government. He was transferred to the Middle East in March 1941. He was the eldest son of Mr and Mrs W Beswick, of Sand Street, Salford. His brother, Private William Beswick, is serving in the Middle East with the Royal Army Medical Corps.
