Hello,
I have just found out that my Grandad signed up for the was aged 18 in 1942. He did not die in the war. I was just wondering how i might go about finding his records? I'm sure i have read somewhere that you have to apply for them, but i don't know where from.
Thanks, Alison.

Hi Alison, Yes you will need to apply for your grandfather's records. Along with a few personal details you will need his Regiment and service number, death certificate and £30.00. See here for more information. Good luck. Edited: to update link

Thanks for your reply, unfortunately we don't know his regt, or his service number. Is that a problem? All we know is that at 18 he signed up for the war, we have no other info, and he died in 1993.
Alison.

Alison, do you have a photo of your grandfather in uniform? There might be a cap badge that will identify his regiment.
Regards Pete
