Hi Everyone, Think this is the right place for this. Have a Lazarus Goldstein born 1899c. - debatable whether UK or Russia. Parents from Russia - not naturalised UK citizens. Lived in Liverpool and Manchester. Looking for details of WWI Service history and cannot find anything. Would he have served the country or be exempted? Any ideas folks?
Thank you in advance.

hiya steve. men like lazarus had a bit of a raw deal during the war,the government were a bit wary of men enlisting with germanic sounding names, they didnt quite trust them, many were sent to home service battalions or formed into labour companies,a lot of them anglicised their names in order to enlist, the 30th and 31st royal fusiliers are two battalions that comprised of men such as these, but they proved them wrong in the end
