tony flynn says its an unusual memorial because it describes it as the european war,WW1 only became a world war when turkey entered it in 1915,this memorial could be the earliest salford memorial up to date,it would have to have been commissioned in late 1914

Just joined SWARM. My parents both worked at Eccles Spinning Mill before the war and I noticed 2 people on the War memorial that they often talked about: Alf Veal and Arthur Richmond. Pete

Wendy, By my reckoning all three are correct. I was unsure who J W Lea was as I could only find one match, a man born in Warrington who I could not connect with Eccles. This article states that J W Lee, of 14 New Lane, worked at the Eccles Spinning Mill. Ernest Robinson is listed as a spinner/mill worker in the 1911 census.
