I'm trying to create a new thread with a photo attached (yes it is smaller than 1024 KB) but it won't let me set it up. I've read the help file for creating a new thread and am doing exactly what it says. What am I doing wrong please?

Hi Gillian, Can you give any details of what exactly is happening when you add the picture? Navigate to the board that you wish to post on> click the new thread icon Then follow the instructions in red in the image below. If you are still having problems you can email the picture to me along with the title of the thread. I can then start the thread and you may add any relevant information.

Thanks for the advice, I tried what you suggested and the picture doesn't show at the side. Tonight I got 2 error messages, firstly,
Uhhh.... We're really sorry about this, but due to an angry bear server issues we could not load this forum. Our technicians are aware of this problem and hope to have the Err Bear under control this situation sorted shortly!
If you continue to have problems you can check our Server Status page or visit the ProBoards Support Forum for help. ERROR CODE: 500
secondly, when I tried again,
internet explorer cannot display the web page.
I think it must be the picture. I'll have a look at the host site suggestion.

Gillian,
The Angry Bear error message occasionally displays when the proboard forums are extremely busy, fortunately this happens rarely.
Is the picture for use as an avatar (the picture that appears under your name)? I ask as you state "that the picture doesn't show at the side."

No sorry I misread your comment about it appearing at the side, I now realise you meant the path to the picture.
It is a picture of someone I was hoping people could help me to identify. I've used one of the host sites and managed to load it that way.
Thanks for both of you for helping to resolve this.

I am glad that you are getting somewhere. You now need to use the button and paste the link to the picture between the [img.].http://myimagesite.com/mypicture.jpg[/img.]
