Gary are those names on the left and right hand side panels, men who served during WW1 & 2 but survived?
Only i was looking at the two " Mellalieu" and could not find any casualties/deaths during WW1&2 for these two men?
If they survived, could these be them 1911@ Beechwood Hazlehurst Rd Worsley?
James Arthur Mellalieu 40 Margaret Ellen Mellalieu 40 Harold Mellalieu 16 Clerk textile office Norman Mellalieu 14 Clerk shipping office Alice Mellalieu 9 Kenneth Mellalieu
There is a medal card for 2nd /Lieut Norman Mellalieu Regiment or Corps: 2nd/6 Lancashire Fusiliers Address on the card: 22 Lambton road Worsley.
Also service records for the same Norman on the 1911 1st city battalion who get a temp commision.

Ben,
I think the only men who died are named on the middle board (although I do believe that the H Toft inscribed on the left panel died on the 12/10/1918 and is buried at St Mark's) and that Norman Gorick is the only Second World War casualty.

Ben, I think the only men who died are named on the middle board (although I do believe that the H Toft inscribed on the left panel died on the 12/10/1918 and is buried at St Mark's) and that Norman Gorick is the only Second World War casualty. To reinforce this, T P Pickering and C H Pickering on the left panel were brothers of the deceased Harold Pickering (an Old Salfordian) on the centre panel, and they survived. The larger font size on the middle panel say it all - they died, the others served and survived - with, it would seem, possible exceptions. If Toft did die before the Armistice, it's a reminder of how fallible war memorials must be. It would have taken a multiplicity of miracles for them all to be precisely comprehensive. Simply because they are carved in stone or cast in bronze doesn't mean they must always be correct. Old Salfordian
