Next day he was buried by a trench mortar , but stuck to his post.

alexander aird worked for aird+leigh,sheet metal workers,he went to st stephens school and church,he held a scholarship at manchester school of art for 4yrs and was a design apprentice for the guild of printers at brazenose st,also a member a south salford lads club The Aird & Leigh was the family company. His father ( also called Alexander ) married an Elizabeth Ann Leigh 1886 at ST.Stephen, Salford. They were residing at 22, King's Rd., Prestwich, Manchester at the time of there sons death. Alexander Aird Private Service No:17284 Date of Death: 01/07/1916 Age:20 Regiment: 15 Battalion Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment). Commemorated on Thiepval Memorial, France. Alexander's father & mother plus members of the Leigh family are all buried together in Southern cemetery, Alexander Sr was still residing at his Kings road address when he died 1933. Ben
