Hi, Has anyone got a photo of a memorial which was in Swinton Library(hopefully still is?) I believe my mum's cousin is on it. His name is Edward Scotchford and was a merchant sailor serving on S.S.Kavak which sailed from Liverpool and was sunk by a U-boat on 2/12/1940

Is this your Edward born 21st July 1917 died 2nd Dec 1940 Son of Edward and Lillian Scotchford; husband of Gladys Scotchford, of Bolton, Lancashire. Click here for EdwardClick for page twoMight be worth you checking to see if the National archives has his full merchant navy pouch, they sometimes have a photo taken when they first signed up, plus details of where they sailed to. Most of the merchant navy & ships records are held for some strange reason in Canada. They seem to think our records are worth looking after Ben

This monument needs to be kept an eye on, as the Council are planning to move the library across the road to Crompton House....leaving the Lancastrian Hall empty...

Does anyone know it this is correct:- The R.A.F. memorial art gallery which is where this memorial is situated was donated as an art gallery to the Council by the R.A.F. just wondered about this as the council have closed it as an art gallery and put the junior library in the room with the memorial. It is all eventually going to be moved over the road to Crompton House...

Lizzie,
I will take a look into the history of the memorial art gallery and post any findings here.
Do you know if there have been any dates announced for the closure of the Lancastrian Hall?
