Mack,
So if a cemetery that contains CWGC graves is grassed over the names are then placed on a local screen wall? I presume CWGC keep a record of this. I ask because this information doesn't show up on their database.
For example:
Name: FISH, HERBERT Initials: H Nationality: United Kingdom Rank: Private Regiment/Service: Manchester Regiment Unit Text: "C" Coy. 16th Bn. Age: 29 Date of Death: 15/02/1916 Service No: 6866 Additional information: Son of the late Martin and Elizabeth Fish, of Eccles. Alternative Commemoration - buried in Eccles (St. Mary The Virgin) Churchyard. Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead Grave/Memorial Reference: Screen Wall. Cemetery: MANCHESTER SOUTHERN CEMETERY
I would have thought that this information would be shown for relatives to know where he is actually buried.

hiya gary. from what i can gather, the churchyard was landscaped many years ago. the CWGC will have the exact location of these graves, but they only give out the original burial site. i have all the original CWGC registers from 1928-1930s for most of great brittain and ireland, and these show the exact grave location.
