Thank you for the welcome Garry, I was pointed here by Malcolm Pilling and John Blakeney who both replied to a point I made on Facebook that I was named after an uncle, a Salford lad, who was killed in the war. They asked me if he was mentioned on any memorial and that I should come here. I dont know of any memorial and am not sure where to look. Although I was born in Salford and my family arer still there, I now live in Sweden. Any pointers would be appreciated. My uncles name was Norman Weston Born: Mar Q 1923, , Salford, Lancashire, England Died: 23 Apr 1943, , , Near Tunis, Tunisia at age 20

Norman,
Sorry to say that we haven't got your uncle's name in our database. We only have 2 Westons: WW1 Weston George Rifleman R/8301 Born Lichborough, Northants.; residence Salford; enlisted Northampton. Son of Mr. J. George Weston, of 6, Browning St., Salford, Manchester.
WW2 Weston Robert Craftsman 3532798 Son of Robert and Margaret Weston, of Swinton, Manchester.
That said... we have quite a few memorials to transcribe yet. Do you know which area of Salford Norman's family resided in? I tried CWGC but no family details are given.
Regards,
Garry

Garry, I know exactly where they lived, it was Jubilee Street down Whit Lane just before Jubilee Bridge. The family were there from the early part of last century until their deaths in mid century so it would cover all of Norman's life. I lived in that house myself when I was very young child. Norman

Hi Norma, Your uncle may have been mentioned on the St George's Church Memorial which was demolished in 1987, although they left the spire of the church. We are still trying to find out if there was a war memorial and whether it was saved.

I dont ever remember a war memorial at St. George's but I may just not remember! I feel sure though that my family would have pointed out, if there had been one, my uncle's name.
