i don't live in Manchester but, for me its not a question of were it is and how long its been there, its people going to see it, the people who have respect will go to its new location, the names on it earned that, they will not be bothered were it is. her in Blackpool the numbers attending remembrance day have been on the up for a few years ,a lot more young ones are turning up . so i would not go making a federal case of it ,look forward to it.

Moving of memorials is not something new, and as long it is carried out with care and respect for the memorial, and the memorial is re-dedicated with proper dignity and respect in a new, fitting location, then I personally don't object. I do think that a more peaceful location may well be more appropriate, away from the to-ing and fro-ing that is modern-day St. Peter's Square.
