Would need to check what local newspapers there were for the Whitefield / Prestwich area for that period, and where copies are held now. My first guess would be Bury, but will have check when I get back into work. I think Bury are going through some major refurbishments at the moment, due to be completed in April if my memory is correct. Don't know if this will affect access to microfilm newspapers. Will look into it for you asap, assuming my shoulder gets better soon.

I am most definitely a relation of yours in some way, i live in Prestwich and several years ago i visited the Flanders battlefields and noticed my surname upon the Ploegsteert memorial. I can ask my McGarraghy relatives for information but i cannot guarantee it will any new information. i am sure on my old camera i have a picture of the memorial with McGarraghy on it.

Patrick McGarraghy Rifleman 1738 1st Bn. Royal Irish Rifles. Born Prestwich, enlisted Manchester. Killed in action 9/5/15 France and Flanders.
Medal roll: British War and Victory Medals.
CWGC: Rfn. 1738 "A" Coy 1st Bn. Royal Irish Rifles. Died 9th May 1915 age 19. No known grave, Ploegsteert memorial. Son of Patrick and Elizabeth Mcgarraghy of 2 London Street, Besses O'th Barn. ALl the information i could get from Stand War Memorial was from the Census: 1901 at 3 Leicester Square, Prestwich age 5 years, attending school.

A bit more info from 1911 census Father Patrick born ?Derelehan Sligo Ireland Mother bore 16 children 11 living Patrick junior (15) Apprentice joiner to an undertaker If you need any more info let me know
