There's a Clarendon Street Primary School, which looks an old-ish building, and isn't there also a small Preparatory School on Half Edge Lane also?? Was one of these the original Grammar School and renamed? Could the memorial of the old Grammar still be at one of these schools?
Apart from a brief stint (18 months) at Eccles College, my knowledge of Eccles is somewhat limited, but I remember these two schools being there 1993 to 1995 as I passed them nearly every day on the way to college.

''2/Lt bruce, heckford sellon died of wounds at the 23rd CCS on 16-8-17,after being shot by a sniper at glencorse wood,he was born on 23rd may 1885,educated at eccles grammar school'' How does that work then? sorry broomy. the thing that puzzled me was that the two officers i mentioned, are not on the memorial, and as garry has pointed out, both would have been too old to have been educated at the school in 1911,so there must have been another eccles grammar school prior to 1911 mack

Bruce Heckford Sellon, and Marmaduke Heckford Sellon, are both remembered on the memorials at St. Mark's Worsley and Holy Rood Church Swinton.
Petchell Burtt Murray is remembered on both of the above memorials and is interred at Monton Unitarian Churchyard.

I can cast some light over which school these are from. These War Memorials were situated in the "Crush Hall" of Eccles Grammar School, formerly Eccles Secondary School. I received information a number of years ago that they were in storage but were going to be disposed of. I rescued these along with the school's honours boards. After a long period of storage, three of the honours boards now reside in Eccles College and The War Memorials were given to St. Paul's Church Monton. There was an Eccles Grammar School in the Albert Road/ Wellington Road area of Eccles from the lates 1800's. This was a private school and I do believe that its last site became Eccles High School which closed at the end of the 1970's. There is more information and Photos of the Memorials and Boards on my site www.ecclesgrammar.co.uk
