Hello, thank you for letting me rejoin SWARM, when I first joined my surname was BURTON, after getting married it is now THOMPSON-BURTON. I have been away from the site for a year or four! My family were Lancashire Fusiliers, Staffordshire Regiment (North and South) and Royal Field Artillery. During WW1 my Great Grandfather, Grandfather and two Great Uncles were in the Army. My Grandfather won the MM in Italy fighting the Austria-Hungarian's in 1918. One of my uncles was with 15th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers (1st Salford Pals) missing in action, 1st July 1916. My Great Grandfather had joined the Cameron Highlanders in 1885, fought in Egypt, left in 1892, called up in 1900 to fight in South Africa, then in 1914 called up again to the Lancashire Fusiliers. He was gassed in France, then went to Gallipoli, Troopship Royal Edward was sunk, rescued, sent on to Gallipoli and was wounded by a dum dum bullet in the Third Battle of Krythia, lower leg amputated and discharged in 1916. During WW2, my Grandfather was in 11th Bn Manchester Regiment, then 8th Bn East Surrey Regiment. An uncle in the Royal Artillery was captured at the Siege of Calais in 1940 and three Uncles, Lancs Fusiliers, Royal Engineers and Army Military Pioneer Corps escaped at Dunkirk.
