Hello. I'm Claire Rossell and recently watched some of the ww1 tv programs. I'm keen to find out about my ancestors. I saw a clip on Salford and spotted a George Herbert John at some point in the programme which is my great grandfather and my grandfather s name and this was when I first thought perhaps I can find out about him. My grandfather was an orphan, from Salford and our family has accepted for a long time that we know nothing about his side of the family. He brought his young family up in Salford and then moved down to Sussex. I am hoping that this is no longer the case with people pulling lots of useful information together. I'm trying to find out if there is any record of a marriage to George Rossell in Lancashire before my grandfather was born and what my great grandmothers name was. I have a photo of her saying she died in June 1915. It also says Dorset Street.
I believe that I may have found my great grandfather through military records and with the help of information on this site, other websites and Ben. If it is the one on the Salford memorial and ypres memorial then he was born in 1887. He enlisted in Salford (20085). I know he died in 1915 in the 1st battle of loos as this is written on the back of his photo. My grandfather never knew his mothers name or any part of their life as he was born in 1912. If this George Rossell (20085) is my great grandfather in 1911 he was in Stapleford, Nottingham and was an electrical instrument maker. At the age of 24.
