Two soldiers on leave were arguing in an Eccles street on Christmas Eve as to the merits of their respective services on the Western Front. A voluble Fusilier was professing the greatest contemt for an Army Service Corps man, who retorted by asking how he would have fared in the trenches without the A.S.C. "Oh, aye" replied the Fusilier, "we know you have to bring the grub up for the trenches but you pinch half of it before you get there."
