Colin, I was happy to get it done. I will try and get the scrolls done over the next few weeks. As a few of the names were difficult to transcribe due to unfocused areas in my pictures/reflections from the glass I had to cross check the names utilising the CWGC database. I found the following man to be an odd entry on the memorial: SLIDDERS, JOHN Rank: Private Service No: 39351 Date of Death: 23/09/1917 Age: 20 Regiment/Service: Lancashire Fusiliers 15th Bn. Grave Reference IV. B. 11. Cemetery COXYDE MILITARY CEMETERY Additional Information: Of Smithy, Collace, Perthshire. Son of John and Isabella Slidders, of Redstone, Burrelton, Coupar Angus, Perthshire.

Trinity 15th Battalion 1st Salford Pals
Captains G Y Heald Geoffrey Yates Heald officer commanding B Company He was born 16/11/95 the son of William and Sarah Ann Heald of Northfield Urmston. His father worked for Williams Deacon Bank in Manchester, and he had an elder brother Oliver and a sister Ms Jessie E Hadfield of 4 Old Hall Lane Worsley. Geoffrey won a scholarship to Manchester Grammar School , where he was in the OTC ,and he became a sergeant in St Clements Church Lads Brigade Urmston. He was an actuarial clerk with the Refuge Assurance Co. Manchester. From 1st Salford Pals L/Cpl Fairburn was in B Company under Captain Heald. "He led us very bravely , shouting to us -"Come on Salford ,in at them" I saw him with my own eyes take out his revolver and shoot three Bosches down, then he was hit while assisting A Company, whom we had then caught up. Whatever his fate ,he was a hero. Private W Evans , who was about 20 yards to the left of him , also saw Captain Heald hit by machine gun fire, and said he was killed instantly.
Captain A Lee Wood Alfred Lee Wood Born 25/5/86, he was the son of James(died1912) ad Maria Ann Wood of Elm House Bolton Rd Clifton, where his father was the secretary of the Clifton & Kearsley Coal Company. His brother Percy of nearby Oakwood , became the General Manager. Alfred later lived with his mother at Arundel Bramhall Cheshire. He went to Southport University, and he gained a BSc at Manchester University. His brother Arthur was a director of the Lancashire Dynamo&Motor Co , and Alfred became the firms representative in India. He was commissioned Lieutenant 12/10/14, and promoted to Captain November 1915. His servant Private G Hutton recalled that on 1st July "the Captain was standing below the parapet, smoking a cigarette and glancing at his wrist watch. At 7:30 sharp , he leapt over the parapet followed by his men. A tornado of bullets was encountered from every side. Barely 50 yards had been covered when he was hit by a bullet which grazed his head. Without pausing he went on a little further, when a second bullet struck the Captain on the head, and at that moment I was struck in the leg. Turning to me Captain Wood asked "Are you badly hit" I replied "Yes sir I cant go on. He then ordered me to try and get back to the trench, I begged him to come back with me but he said "No I will get that machine gunner". He was a brave man ,and one of the best. I volunteered to carry him to the stretcher bearers , back in the trench his last words were "Am I dreaming"
