Trinity 15th Lancashire Fusiliers 1st Salford Pals Lieutenant E Hampson From 1st Salford Pals Edgar Hampson born on 23/8/95, he was the son of Edith and Peter of Millville House ,81 Camp St Broughton. His father was a Salford Councillor and proprietor and editor of the Salford Reporter. His elder brother Captain Stuart Hirst Hampson was acting adjutant in the 20th Lancashire Fusiliers. Edgar went to Vernon House School Broughton and Manchester Grammar School. He was a noted swimmer , footballer and cricketer. He attended the Church of the Ascension Lower Broughton, and was a Sunday school teacher. He trained with Manchester University OTC and was commissioned 2nd Lt September 1914, becoming a Lt a year later. In August 1916 L/Cpl Joseph Appleyard reported that Lt Hampson was shot in the stomach by machine gun fire whilst in the German front line. Private W Hall wrote from hospital "Never will I forget the heroism and fortitude displayed by all ranks as they went over the top. I belonged to Lt Hampsons platoon , he was always a gallant officer , cool under the most trying ordeal, and also very considerate to his men, a thorough gentleman and not afraid of anything. Wendy

Trinity Thiepval T A W Oxley Thomas Arthur Wilkinson. Aged 28 was born in Manchester, the son of Thomas Oxley architect of 16 Barrett St Old Trafford. He lived with his wife and 2 children at Brookland St Weaste, and worked for the Manchester Cold Storage Co at Mode Wheel. His widow later remarried(Plant) and lived at 111 Bridson St. Wendy

R Knox Robert Aged 33 , he went to Trafford Rd School and was connected with Salford Central Mission. He lived with his wife Martha nee Ford and children Elsie and Edna at 16 Jane St Eccles New Rd, and had worked a Salford Docks for 12 years. Wendy
