Does anyone have any info on my Great Uncle Harry Stewart Burton born 4 July 1896. I believe he enlisted with the 16th Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers. I have found him on the National Roll of the Great War & possibly his Medal Card. I cannot find any other records for him & would be very interested in his time spent during the War. He survived the War & died 1973, Oxfordshire. I never knew him. Many thanks for your time. Sue Attachments:

I see you already have this but i wonder if he appears on any of the rolls of honour? BURTON H.S Corpl, Lancashire Fusiliers 12 Stowell Street, Weaste Volunteering in Nov 1914 was drafted a year later to France and took part in the fighting at, Loos, Vermells, Vimy Ridge, the Somme, and Arras, where he was wounded. He rejoined his unit and was in action at Ypres and cambrai and was again wounded in 1918 at the Somme and invalided home. He was demobilised in Feb 1919 and holds the 1914-15 Star, General Service and Victory medals. Ref: Z4341 Description Medal card of Burton, Harry Corps Regiment No Rank 16th Lancashire Fusiliers 11426 Private 16th Lancashire Fusiliers 11426 Corporal Shame Liverpool Annie, is no longer with us Ben

Hi Willow, Welcome to the forum. I can not see Harry mentioned on any of the Roll of Honours we have seen to date. I will look in the Lancashire Fusiliers Pals book the next time I visit the Salford History Library, it may contain a picture of Harry with his company, like in the examples in this link.

Thank you both for your replies. Any extra info on Harry would be so welcomed.

Hi, I hope you have a good eye for family resemblance. Harry is one of the soldiers in this picture.

Oh my goodness - what a great picture. I have no clue to which one is Harry though!! I wonder if Harry was made a Corporal here - could narrow it down a bit. Many thanks for putting yourself out. Sorry for the delay in repling - I dont seem to get any notifications of this post.
