Joseph Edward Woodall V.C 1st Battalion Rifle Brigade Captain Born 1/6/1896 Robinson St Salford Died 2/1/62 St Michaels Hospital Dublin He was found in his flat by his neighbour Mr Joseph King, he had burns to his body following a fit. H e died of Bronchial pneumonia exacerbated by his burns Buried Deans Grange Cemetery Dun Laoghaire Ireland
Deed 22/4/18 Lance/Serg at the time. When leading a platoon and held up by machine gun fire, he rushed forward aloneand captured the gun and 8 prisoners , then subsequently led 10 men and took a Farmhouse and 30 more prisoners. When his C.O was killed , he took command of 2 Plattons , reorganising and placing them skillfully throughout the day, and sending back valuable information.
