Private 251520. 1st/6th Battalion, Manchester Regiment. CWGC: Wednesday, 4th September 1918, age 28. Buried at Bagneux British Cemetery, Gezaincourt, Somme, France (VI. F. 12). Son of Robert and Eliza Crompton, of 67, Seedley Park road, Pendleton. SDGW: Born and enlisted in Salford. Died of wounds. SCR article 21st September 1918: PRIVATE R. S. CROMPTON Private Robert Stanley Crompton, Manchester Regiment, died from wounds in a casualty clearing station in France on September 4. He was the younger son of Mrs and the late Mr. Robert Crompton, of 67, Seedley Park road, Pendleton. Private Crompton was 28 years of age and an old scholar of Trafford Road School, and a member of Weaste Congregational Church. He joined the Army in November, 1915, and afterwards served in Gallipoli and in Egypt. He went to France in March, 1917. In civil life he was employed by Messrs. Richmond and Chandler, Manchester, and was a popular member of the Manchester Lyric Glee society. from Neil Drum
